Seminar about life span extention
The Eudoxa think tank of Stockholm publishes a report on lifetime expansion and holds a public policy institute seminar in the virtual world Second Life
Dr. Anders Sandberg, research director at Eudoxa has written a study on how modern medicine has facilitated life extention and its effects on health care policy.
The report Keep on raging against ageing argues that lifespan is routinely extended today and ageing has slowed down in laboratory animals. We live in a rapidly greying society where the average lifespan, health and vigour are radically improving. As researchers increasingly see ageing as something mutable – and hence potentially treatable - we have to start considering how to deal with the changes it will cause in society and our lives.
Anders Sandberg's background is in Computer Science and Psychology from Stockholm University and he completed his doctoral thesis on Artificial Neural Networks at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Currently he is a postdoctoral research assistant at the Oxford University ENHANCE Project and Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics.
The seminar will be held on Uvvy Island in the virtual world Second Life (please read more on its webpage) on Monday December 18th at 19h00 Central European Time (13h00 EST, 10h00 PST)
The Eudoxa think tank is based in Stockholm, Sweden. Their focus is on discussing the societal effects of emerging technologies with dynamist thoughts on experimentation. Eudoxa has published books and reports in Swedish, Danish and English.
