The body as the state's "strategic asset"
In his The Pulse article Paranoia... or Profit? of June 20th, Anders Sandberg writes about Russia's recent ban on exporting human biological materials.
While the Russian example might be an extreme the trade in genetic and biological materials is quickly becoming very brisk globally. In most cases these materials are controlled by the governments, that can see a rapid way of making profits from their citizens' very bodies. A discussion of the government control over the individual's body is most needed.
