Do RSS-feeds limit the blog medium?

I've heard it a couple of times recently from fellow bloggers that RSS-feeds are limiting the blog medium. Perhaps they have a point, in that then people loose one of the blogs most useful features, namely the links that clarify points and gives background to the written text.

I often find myself writing in very different ways when I write for a printed publication and an on-line publication, as I can link in the on-line publication and able to get around to the point much earlier in the flow of the text- instead of elaborating on clarifications, highlights, quotes and background. Coupled with the opportunity for more space it is a distinct advantage for the electronic media.

The blog as a medium is open for more than just quick Fiskeing and rapid comments on what happens in current events, it is an excellent medium also for essays, expanded texts, and experimentation that could never be done in a printed medium. It would be too bad if we lost this due to technical structre and the blog would become just a comment and not a opinion starter.

In the long run, I am very optimistic of this not happening (quite the contrary I think), but in the short run it is worth to considering.
