Pave the rain forest

Often when you pass by street vendors, petitioners collecting signatures, Hare Krishnas giving you flowers you often stop in your tracks and start listen and even complying to their requests. The social psychologist Robert B. Cialdini called this the "whirr- click" response in his book Influence. When we are taken off guard by being suddenly approached we tend to comply.

That is why the following request for signing a petition to pave the rain forest, is both fun but also a warning. It is a simple psychological mechanism to fall for, and one could wonder about how many signatures for petitions are really acquired?
